Oven Door Hinges
Oven door hinges are very common parts to fail, not because they are of poor quality particularly but more because they tend to undergo a lot of wear and tear in their life.
The most common type of oven door hinge that we use is the continental type for pull-down oven doors. The reason is that these are compact and similar design of oven hinges are used in a vast range of built in ovens and nowadays cookers as well. This leads to a small problem as well as, you must have the full model (and sometimes serial number) in order to ensure you get the correct hinges for your oven or cooker. You can get this from the rating plate which you will usually find around the oven door or on the surround around aperture on the oven or cooker that the oven door closes into. On freestanding cooker, especially range cookers, the rating plate is also often in the warming drawer but it is usually somewhere reasonably accessible.
It is very rare that anyone in the trade will replace just one oven door hinge, with very good reason as if one's gone the other hinge is almost certain to follow shortly after. Often we will also replace the oven door hinge guide, sometimes referred to as the oven hinge runner as well as the bearings in these fail which causes the hinge not to run true and so the hinge fails.
When replacing the oven door hinges please do check to make sure that the oven rollers or, runners, as they are known are also okay.
