You use this hotplate, or element, cleaner to effectively re-blacken the plate with a little heat applied from the plate itself. It is almost like re-painting the surface of the hotplate although where the plate is pitted or rusty it may not bring the hotplate back to looking like new, but it will markedly improve the look of the plate and quite likely extend its lifespan.
