Genuine Whirlpool fridge filter for a huge range of American style fridge freezers sold by Whirlpool and under other brand names like Hotpoint, Smeg and others. This water filter fits all Whirlpool (and many others) American style fridge freezer models that have a "twist out" water filter mounted in the lower grill below the front doors.
This water filter is also known as the Clean Ice & Water Filter.
We do have a cheap budget fridge filter available for this water filter if you use our WP53101 Whirlpool water filter from this link
This is the latest filter cartridge and will fit all Whirlpool fridges with the cartridge in the grille at the base under the door that has enhanced performance over the standard filter and many copies, removing a wider range of contaminants.
Many of later fridge freezers that use this fridge filter also require a Microban air filter as well which you can buy from this link or, if you want to save a bit of money we have made this water filter available with the Microban filter and the water filter as a kit which you can see and buy using this link.
This fridge water filter will also fit other Whirlpool manufactured American fridge freezers from Smeg, Hotpoint and many other brands where the filter is fitted in the lower grill of the machine. the old one simply twists out and the new one twists in, very simple to replace.
How To Reset The Water Filter Light
After installing the new filter some models do require that you reset the filter light manually to do this, depending on the model either press the light switch (the one that the fridge door presses every time you close the door) 5 times within 10 seconds. Or, if the fridge has a filter button, press and hold it for 5-10 seconds.
Either way should reset the change filter lamp.
Free Timestrip With This Water Filter
With this fridge water filter we include, free of charge, a Timestrip worth £1.49 that allows you to see quickly tell that you are needing a new water filter or to simply see how long the filter that is in the fridge has been there.
The problem with most fridges is that whilst on a fridge at least there is normally some sort of filter change light to tell you when to change the filter it usually won't come on until you actually need to replace the filter. Obviously it is normally a few days before you can get one and swap it over but, if you use the water and ice a lot this can be an inconvenience.
Because of the way that this Whirlpool water filter is fitted into the fridge freezer please do not attach the Timestrip to the filter itself, instead stick the Timestrip inside the fridge, on one side of the fridge or on the door.
The Timestrip is activated by simply squeezing the bubble on the label and a red line appears almost immediately to confirm that the indicator is active. That's it, you're done!
Safe, simple and dead easy.
You can find more information about Timestrip from this link

Over the past few years, as fridges with filtered water have become more and more popular, we've also seen a mammoth rise in very cheap and, usually very nasty, fridge freezer water filters coming onto the market. It won't surprise most people to learn that these are mass produced very cheaply in places like China and the quality can be, at best, questionable. Of course there are some good filters that come from the Far East as well, we know as we do use some of them, but they cost significantly more than the really cheap and nasty water filters that we won't sell.
Asides from which we've now had several worrying report of these cheap water filters breaking up and contaminating the water system in some models of fridge freezers, that's not good at all.
The point of a water filter in your fridge is to get good, clean water to drink. Many cheap fridge water filters don't accomplish that.
You can learn much more on this subject, as well as why it is important to regularly change the water filter from this article on the main site
Choosing The Correct Fridge Water Filter
There are, in effect, two ways that fridge water filters are installed, either externally or internally.
Most external water filters are all of the one kind and are pretty much universal, that's the WSF100 type cartridge that has a pipe from your mains water in one side and a pipe out the other to the fridge.
The internal ones can be a lot more interesting.
Most fridge and fridge freezer manufacturers will "brand" their machines for other people so you can save by not buying the, for example, genuine Hotpoint or Smeg water filter and instead buy the Whirlpool one which is much cheaper but, the same water filter. This applies to a good many fridge water filters and if you look closely you can save money on them.
