Washing Machine Heating Elements

The water heating element in your washing machine or washer dryer essentially heats the water to the preset temperature determined either by the wash program selected or the temperature set if you have a separate control to allow you to do that.

To test most heating elements it is a simple continuity check, either the heater has a circuit and is okay or it is open circuit and therefore faulty. However, it should be noted that there are some exceptions to this simple rule and things such as earth leakage on a heating element can cause issues, especially on more modern electronically controlled washing machines and washer dryers.
