Universal Fridge & Freezer Door Seal

Alternative Part
Typically with you in 30 to 90 days
FREE delivery available

This is a universal door seal kit to fit almost any fridge, freezer or fridge freezer door that has a door seal that does not exceed 130x60cm in size

The gasket kit comprises of two ribbed face, welded "L" shaped sections that are cut to size and then joined using the included corner joints. Also included is a coil of magnetic strip that has to be inserted into the door gasket itself when cut to size.

Although relatively simple to fit this part can be a bit of a fiddle and usually takes some time to fit. It can also take some time for the replacement door seal to compress into shape. For these reasons we will generally advice that this is the last option when looking for a fridge or freezer door seal and that, if you possibly can, to obtain the correct one wherever possible.

This seal is not suitable for fridges or freezers where the door seal is a moulded part of the door with a very low profile.

Some suitable glue (Super Glue works a treat) may be required.

IMPORTANT - Please Note

Please be aware that this door seal, once a fitting attempt has been made, is non-returnable. We will not accept the kit as a returned item if you fail to or cannot fit it as it is designed to be done by an engineer therefore, no instructions are provided.

This is a spare bought entirely at your own risk and it can be awkward to fit.

Universal Fridge/Freezer Door Seal Fitting Guide

The seal kit comes as two profiled “L” shaped sections which are already mitre cut ready to join together to form a complete door seal. Each shaped section contains a magnetic strip within the seal.

For best results, it is better to hang the strips somewhere warm, or ideally lay them out on a flat surface at room temperature for a few hours before assembly to remove any kinks in the material during packaging and transport. This makes the seal much easier to measure correctly and assemble.

You will need a tape measure, a sharp craft knife or stanley knife and superglue for assembly. (Not supplied). Always take care when cutting. Cut on a solid base-board and always cut away from you. Take care when using any superglue type of product. Always read the manufacturers instructions, use in a well ventilated area and take care with excess glue around joints.

1. Measure your old fridge door seal with care and mark these measurements on the new seal.

2. Mark out mitres on seal to be cut to length. The mitred edges must be marked with care to ensure a good join in the seal

3. Carefully cut the seal to the required length.

4. Pull the magnetic strip a short way out of the seal and trim approximately 2mm off the magnetic strip at each mitre joint. This makes the seals easier to assemble and glue together.

5. Push the magnetic strip back within the seal so that it is flush with or just below the edge of the mitred end of the seal.

6. Carefully glue the mitred ends of the seal together to form a complete door seal. Take care that all excess glue has either been removed or has set before handling the seal.

7. Finally fit the completed seal to your fridge or freezer door.

   Fridge & Freezer Door Seals

Fridge and freezer doors seals or gaskets are plastic (although often referred to as being rubber) gaskets with a magnetic strip inside them to seal the door of the fridge or freezer and prevent air ingress into the cooling area of the appliance.

When the door seal is faulty it will often appear to be split or cracked and allow air to seep into the fridge or freezer leading to extended running times and quite probably a build up of frost inside either a fridge or freezer. It is easy to tell if this is the cause and this problem is explained more in-depth in our article on over-freezing fridges and freezers available from this link.

A faulty fridge or freezer door seal should be replaced as quickly as possible as it will mean that the appliance runs for longer which, apart from costing you more money on electricity, can also stress the compressor leading to overheating and premature failure. It also, as stated can cause ice build-up problems.

Since the mid-1980's many door seals, especially on cheaper fridges and freezers, use what is referred to in the trade as a "foamed door". That is that the door seal, the inner door and outer door are placed together and then the insulating foam injected into the door itself. This dries and hardens holding the three together without any screws and, often, these are only supplied as complete assemblies, the door seal not being available separately.

Fridge and freezer door seals are very model specific and we cannot provide size information on most occasions. We also only list those that are considered to be common and where we have reliable model information as many change not only on model numbers but also on production runs of a model, you, therefore, need serial numbers or production numbers to ensure that you get the correct door seal. For this reason, we urge you to ask us specifically for your model unless you can confidently locate the correct door seal.

If your door seal is just split or has a small tear you can try using Sugru, you'll find that with the help of Google. Wonderful stuff and can save you from having the cost and hassle of replacing the door seal.

More information on diagnosing fridge and freezer faults can be found in our basic fault finding guide for refrigeration that is from this link.

Where to find the rating plate on your fridge to order spare parts

You can see a typical example of a rating plate above which will usually be inside the unit.

Almost without exception these days you will find the model number of a fridge or fridge freezer on the left-hand wall of the fridge by way of the rating plate. Getting the correct model and sometimes the serial or service number can be vital in getting the correct tray or shelf you need.

You can get more information on fridge and freezer door seals in this article and also in this one.

  Door Seal Fitting Notes?

Slight deformation of the door seal is normal and does not affect its function.

We recommend straightening the door seal before inserting it into the appliance.

To do this, lay the seal flat for at least 12-24 hours before fitting and if required heat the door seal gently with a hair dryer or hot water and manually reshape it. This can be a requirement on some seals when they are fitted to allow the seal to reshape correctly.

The thickness of the new door seal may deviate slightly from the thickness of the old door seal. This will not affect the closing behaviour and long-term function.

If your appliance has adjustable hinges or hinge attachments, you can optimise the closing behaviour by adjustment of the hinges on some models.

Universal spare parts

Universal Low-Cost Spare Parts

Universal spare parts are generic and designed to fit as many different models as possible as well as normally offering a cheaper alternative to original spare parts. However, they will not satisfy all applications and they often will also require some DIY skill when replacing.

They are incredibly handy though, especially when you're in a spot with no other option and why that many (if not most) of these spares will be found on almost every appliance technician's van stock.

The reasons for this are fairly self-evident, they fit a huge number of products, often tens of thousands of models and they tend to be really cheap. But most can be modified or tinkered about with to replace a myriad of far more costly spare parts so, for field tech looking to make a bit extra even although they spend more time doing this, it's a no-brainer for them.

That's all fine if you have a bit of skill or are prepared to spend the time on working out how to utilise a universal spare part and you, of course, want to save money.

The reason we tell people as openly and honestly this is that we don't want people thinking that a universal part will be an exact like-for-like swap as often times it won't be. On many occasions it is but we like to let you know what you're getting into, unlike many retailers.

We are going to get any part/s your order to you as fast as we possibly can.

We use a variety of means to do that but we also give you, the customer, the choice of how fast you want the transit time to be as well as the features and convenience levels that suit you on delivery so, there are options. There is a lot of information here on how we do this and an explanation of the choice you have as well as the impact of each in speed and cost as we are very open and transparent.

Orders placed outwith our normal business hours will not be shipped until the next working day and subject to stock availability.

Please be aware that we show availability and that we do not display live stock levels online.

What we do is give an average here based on where parts are and typically take to ship as well as an average of transit times based on how people order parts so these can vary depending largely on the shipping method that we allow you to select depending on your own individual needs.

The estimated normal time that an item will take to reach you (excluding weekends and public holidays) is indicated on every listing at the top of the listing in orange with the truck next to it, an explanation of these is as follows:

1 to 6 Days: Normally a UK stock item and usually dispatched the same or next working day but some items may take a little longer depending on where the stock is.

1 to ** Days: Usually a UK/EU stocked item but may have a longer lead time, for clarification of the time please contact us before ordering and we will advise further if required.

* to ** Days: Variable lead times that are based on normal order supply times, often parts that do not have a “1 to“ at the start will ordinarily be factory or custom order items and we would ask that you please allow the time indicated for your order to arrive with you. Please note that these items are specially ordered upon request that is not normally stocked therefore cannot be ordinarily returned, this does not affect your statutory rights.

Again, please note that your chosen delivery method may affect the delivery time to both shorten and lengthen that delivery time and that these estimates apply to UK mainland orders only. The faster delivery method that you choose, the lower on that estimated delivery time you will likely receive the items ordered.

If you need clarification or a more accurate lead time please contact us for assistance on that and we will do our utmost to provide that as our estimated lead times are based on normal stock availability, average lead times, average shipping times and this can vary depending on shipping methods etc.

Our standard delivery charges are quoted online when you place an order on the checkout page and are determined by weight, size and method so can alter based on those parameters.

Large (oversized/overweight) items (panels, dishracks, cooktops, tubs, drums, etc.) may incur additional shipping fees, especially when off the mainland UK.

Our estimated delivery times do not apply to international or offshore orders, only to UK mainland addresses and that delivery times to more rural areas may vary depending on the service used.

Delivery times can vary at times of very high volumes, such as Christmas period and also due to bad weather etc and at such times deliveries, regardless of service used, may not happen as normal.

Please do understand that manufacturers can change specifications, pricing and delivery times without notice and we do try to take account of this as best we can but we cannot absolutely guarantee these things when outside of our control.

  Order Transit Times

If the item you have ordered is in stock and the order is placed before 3.00pm Monday to Friday then we will endeavour to dispatch the order on the same day. Subsequent delivery times are usually between 1-3 working days dependant on the service you have chosen, the time your order is placed and stock availability.

If an item is required for a guaranteed next day delivery please contact us in advance to check that this is possible

Please note that the times given can be subject to availability, however, more than 98% of all orders are delivered on or faster than the estimated times.

Additionally, it is the customer's responsibility to take reasonable care of the goods during the cancellation period and we would, therefore, recommended the product(s) are returned with the original packaging in good condition to avoid the products being damaged on the return journey.

If you fail to take reasonable care of the goods before they are returned to us, and this results in damage or deterioration, we will charge you for the reduction in value or the return may not be authorised.

If you wish to make a return please note that we cannot accept returns if:

  • The products have been used, personalised or customised in any way.
  • The products have been fitted for fault finding purposes, we will deem it to have been used.
  • The product/s were custom special order only items.
Some, not all it varies on a case by case basis, special order items can be returned but to do so will incur costs, typically restocking fees charged by manufacturers etc and those can be hefty so it is as always better to check suitability before ordering.
